1- Read More

You’ve probably heard it said before that great writers are avid readers. Reading is very important in order to succeed as a writer. When you read books by other authors, you become exposed to varying styles, plots, characters, vocabulary, and so much more. This gives you the necessary base to start your own story.

By reading, you learn from other authors’ successes and their mistakes. Do you see too many repetitions of the same words? Are there awkwardly placed punctuation marks? Try to avoid these when you start writing your manuscript.

Keep in mind that you can also read dictionaries and essays to get your creative juices flowing. You don’t have to stick only to narratives.

2- Check Out Popular Blogs

Like this one!

There are hundreds of blogs that cover a wide variety of topics. That’s why, when lacking the motivation to work on their pieces, writers refer to these blogs to see what inspires other writers.

As you read the blog posts, you can gather information that can be used to help you take the next step toward your writing goal.

3- Go Outside

It’s widely known that being outside in the open air has wonderful effects on our physical bodies. That’s why you should go out into nature more often, especially if you’re feeling stuck or bored with your writing.

Go out, embrace the beauty of nature, and feel the energy flow through your body.

It’s possible you might find something to write about while outdoors. You can take a walk with a friend, ride your bike, or even go fishing! Anything you do outside could be a good beginning to a great story.

Changing your scenery is a fantastic opportunity to improve your physical health and keep your brain alert in a less stressful environment.

4- Listen to Music

Studies show that classical music can have an extremely positive impact on your brain. When we listen to this type of music, new neuron connections emerge, which automatically lead to a boost in creativity.

At the same time, you feel happy when listening to music. It creates a relaxed, creative atmosphere to allow your artistic genius to shine through.

If you’re having trouble writing, play some calming classical music in the background while you work to give yourself a productivity boost.

5- Get Rid of Distractions

It goes without saying that we need to eliminate distractions at some point to increase our creativity. Distractions like our phones or social media can steal our focus and prevent us from creating works of art!

Getting rid of distractions will save you time and energy, as well as give you the opportunity to write better.

Remember, our phones and online social platforms aren’t the only things that can make us lose focus. Books, emails, siblings, pets, and television can also be distractions.

So, make sure you’re in a space that allows for privacy when you’re writing. If it gets too loud at home, head to the library, rent a co-working space, or go to a quiet cafe.
