Five Tips to Speed Up English Learning

Learning a new language can be difficult, which is why today’s blog will address ways to speed up English learning. It is even harder to learn when it seems like everyone around you is fluent in the language, while you might find it difficult to understand what they are saying. However, nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it. Here are five tips to help boost your English learning!

Tip 1: Set realistic goals

Learning a new language takes time and effort, so it is important to set realistic goals for yourself. Do not expect to become fluent in English overnight! Instead, focus on making small, incremental progress each day. Also, it is important to make sure you are keeping your English learning goals flexible. From one week to the next, you may find yourself getting better at learning standard English conventions, so you might want to increase the number of hours you practice other skills. Develop goals that you think you will be able to attain based on the current position you are in right now.

Examples:

Realistic goal: “I’m going to spend one hour every day learning the difference between nouns and verbs in English and how to apply them!”

Unrealistic goal: “I’m going to read a 1,000-page book this week to become a master at English.”

Tip 2: Find a learning method that works for you

There are many different ways to speed up your English learning. It is extremely important to experiment with different methods until you find one that you enjoy and helps you learn effectively.

Some people may prefer independent study, while others may want a structured or guided plan for their learning. Figuring out what works for you is really important to make sure you get the most out of the time you are learning a new language. You also may want to diversify the resources you use to learn, such as short books, websites, learning platforms, and flashcard software platforms to help you gain a better understanding of the language. Understand what type of learner you are. Are you a visual (someone who watches) learner? Auditory (someone who listens) learner? Kinesthetic (someone who does things by hand) learner? Once you are able to figure out your learning style, start using resources for your specific style to get the most out of the time you spend!

Tip 3: Practice regularly

The more you practice English, the better you will become at speaking and understanding it. Try to find opportunities to practice every day, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Listening to music in English and reading books or articles in English are just some of the activities you can do to improve!

There are so many things you can do to speed up your English language learning that you may not even think will help you! Watching a TV show that you find interesting can help you understand English in its spoken form and get a better grasp on understanding how people communicate with each other in a friendly environment versus a professional environment. You can even begin to learn the mannerisms and sayings that speakers frequently use if you watch movies and TV shows!

Although it may seem intimidating, speaking with someone who is already extremely fluent in English can help push you out of your comfort zone and encourage you to become more fluent in the language. This person can also be there to correct your mistakes and act as a source of help if you ever have any questions! By forcing yourself to communicate with that person in English, you will naturally begin to notice an improvement in your English fluency.

Tip 4: Don’t be afraid to make mistakes

Everyone makes mistakes when they’re learning a new language. The important thing is to not let your mistakes discourage you. Instead, view them as opportunities to learn and improve. Making mistakes is a natural part of the language learning process. Do not let the fear of making mistakes hold you back from practicing and using your English. The more you practice, the better you will become. Be patient with yourself and do not give up. At the end of the day, mastering a new language can be challenging, but it is also very rewarding.

Tip 5: Immerse yourself in the language

If possible, try to immerse yourself in the English language by traveling to an English-speaking country or living with English speakers. This will give you the opportunity to practice your English skills in a real-world setting.
